In the workshop : Beeswax

Beeswax is a natural substance produced by bees.

Characteristics:

  • natural substance of animal origin
  • malleable when heated
  • hydrophobic, repelling moisture
  • soft, characteristic scent

It has many uses:

  • used on its own or mixed with other substances, it allows the making of candles
  • used in cooking to grease traditional moulds, notably for baking the Bordeaux cannelé
  • included in various preparations or used alone to protect leather, wood or metal

It is also found in many old recipes and traditional craft practices.

In our workshop, beeswax has several essential uses.

It can be employed as:

  • a natural adhesive, allowing delicate elements to be assembled or held in place without resorting to chemical glues
  • a protective material against humidity
